Rose Hill Elementary PTSA Board of Directors’ Responsibilities

President

The PTSA President provides leadership and support to the Executive Board, presides at all PTSA meetings, and makes appointments as necessary with board members, chairpersons and committees. The PTSA President also communicates regularly with the school principal and the administrative staff, internally communicates information important to PTSA programs, and attends or sends representatives to the Lake Washington PTSA Council meetings and state workshops.

This position requires a presence at school and a reasonable number of PTSA functions. The amount of hours spent ranges throughout the year and with the president’s leadership style.

Attendance at Board of Directors’ Meetings, General Membership Meetings, and one WA State PTA approved training course is required. 

Director of Communications

The Director of Communications responsibilities include soliciting content for the weekly newsletter from event chairs and board members, reviewing the Raccoon Tales and communicating with the school secretary, Natural Leaders liaison, and librarian about school events, and composing and scheduling the weekly newsletters in Mail Chimp. The Director of Communications also creates and schedules Facebook posts, communicates with the Director of Systems and Technology about web content, and maintains and updates the database of PTSA contacts.

Time Commitment: This position requires approximately 2 hours weekly.

Attendance at Board of Directors’ Meetings, General Membership Meetings, and one WA State PTA approved training course is required. 

 

Director of Systems and Technology

The Director of Systems and Technology maintains the PTSA website, manages putting events on the LWSD calendar, and works closely with the Director of Communications.

Director of Membership and Community Relations

The Director of Membership and Community Relations inputs and maintains member records, promotes PTSA membership within the school community.

Time Commitment:  This position requires approximately 1-2 hours weekly during membership drives, much less at other times.

Attendance at Board of Directors’ Meetings, General Membership Meetings, and one WA State PTA approved training course is required. 

 

Director of Volunteers and Events

The Director of Volunteers and Events has the opportunity to work with our incredible volunteer community to orchestrate events and activities for Rose Hill Elementary. This role is the glue that keeps our volunteer community together. They work with the school staff, PTSA and volunteers to provide amazing experiences for our students and their families. 

Time Commitment: This position requires approximately 1-2 hours weekly.

Attendance at Board of Directors’ Meetings, General Membership Meetings, and one WA State PTA approved training course is required. 

 

Director of Fundraising

The Director of Fundraising is responsible for the overall raising of funds for the PTSA.  Most of these funds are raised in the fall during the Annual Appeal. The Annual Appeal is a 2-week, direct-giving pledge drive.  Other optional fundraising ideas could include an auction, spring fundraiser, or raising funds for specific projects.

Time Commitment: This position requires approximately 2-4 hours weekly in September for the Annual Appeal, much less at other times.

Attendance at Board of Directors’ Meetings, General Membership Meetings, and one WA State PTA approved training course is required. 

 

Treasurer

The treasurer deposits and disburses dues & funds, prepares a monthly Treasurer's report, prepares mid-year and end-of year summaries and is responsible for all required government paperwork. The treasurer is also responsible for keeping all financial records and for presenting them to a yearly audit committee.

Attendance at Board of Directors’ Meetings, General Membership Meetings, and one WA State PTA approved training course is required. 

 

Secretary

The Secretary provides the record keeping functions for the PTSA. They attend and record minutes for both Board of Directors’ and General Membership meetings, submit minutes for approval, handle correspondence regarding any PTSA meetings and keep attendance records. They also maintain the legal documents, the trainings completed, and the permanent record files.

Director of Family and Community Engagement

This position is focused on family and community engagements to help uphold our mission which is to "enrich the lives of all Rose Hill Elementary students and families by providing additional opportunities for academic learning, community building, and personal growth."

Ideas for this position include welcoming all new and international families, working with Natural Leaders, Parenting Workshops, Coordinating Cultural Ambassadors to welcome families and help with translations of school information, Supporting school Librarian to help search for books in different languages, Supporting cultural events and activities, etc

Director of Communications (Newsletter): Mara Colasante               rheptsacomm@gmail.com

Mara joined the Rose Hill community in 2021.  Before that, she was a first grade teacher in the Bellevue School District. Now she enjoys contributing to this incredible school community as a parent and volunteer. She has a son, Henry, in fourth grade and a son, Jack, in second grade. She and her husband, Tim, are both from Columbus, Ohio and attended The Ohio State University, where they met. Outside of volunteering and raising two boys, Mara loves cooking, visiting farmers markets, and reading poetry. She is excited to serve on the PTSA as Co-Director of Communications.

Jennifer joined the RHE community in 2022. She has a daughter in 2nd grade and a son at Old Redmond Schoolhouse. She enjoys reading, boardgames, and outdoor activities. She is a digital accessibility professional. Jennifer is looking forward to being a resource for families navigating their relationships with disability.

Jackie joined the RHE community in 2017. She has a son in 4th grade and a daughter in RHMS. She subs for LWSD in the offices as needed and in her spare time enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking and exploring. As a family she enjoys playing board games and reading out load to her family in a multitude of voices. She is looking forward to leading another year of yearbook and is also looking to take someone under her wing this year to pass on her knowledge and skill.
